Pune Prison Parole Breach: Murder Convict Fails to Return from Mumbai
In a significant security lapse, a murder convict serving a life sentence at Yerawada Central Prison in Pune has failed to return after his 28-day parole period ended. The inmate, originally from Mumbai's Sion area, was granted parole on March 19 and was required to report back to prison by April 16, following the conclusion of his parole on April 15.
Police Complaint Filed After Two-Day Delay
Prison authorities waited for two days after the inmate's scheduled return date before taking official action. On Saturday, prison guard Tausif Shaikh, aged 37, filed a formal complaint with the Yerawada police station regarding the inmate's disappearance. Senior inspector Anjum Bagwan confirmed the details of the case, noting that the convict has been serving a life sentence since 2018 for murder and was lodged at Yerawada Prison on December 3, 2025.
Search Efforts Yield No Results
Following the complaint, police launched an immediate investigation. Officers conducted a thorough search at the inmate's registered residence in Sion, Mumbai, but found no trace of him. During inquiries, relatives of the convict stated they were unaware of his current whereabouts, adding to the mystery surrounding his disappearance.
The authorities are now intensifying their search operations, as this incident raises serious concerns about parole monitoring and prison security protocols. This case highlights potential vulnerabilities in the system that allow convicted criminals to evade custody after temporary release.
Local law enforcement agencies are coordinating efforts to locate the fugitive, emphasizing the urgency of the situation given the inmate's violent criminal history. The public has been advised to report any suspicious activities or information related to the case to the Yerawada police immediately.
