Azamgarh Police Apprehend Murder Suspect Following Late-Night Encounter
In a dramatic late-night operation, police in Azamgarh district arrested a man accused of murdering his friend in Varanasi earlier this month. The incident unfolded in the Mubarakpur police station area during the early hours of Sunday morning, culminating in an exchange of fire that left the suspect with a bullet injury to his leg.
Police Patrol Leads to Tip-Off and Confrontation
According to Azamgarh CO (Sadar) Astha Jaiswal, a police team from Mubarakpur was conducting routine patrols when they received crucial intelligence about the movements of the murder accused along Damodarpur road. Acting swiftly on this tip, officers cordoned off the area and moved to intercept the individual.
Upon spotting the police, the accused opened fire in a desperate attempt to flee the scene. In the ensuing retaliatory action by law enforcement, the suspect sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was subsequently apprehended. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Evidence Recovered and Confession Obtained
Following the arrest, police conducted a search and recovered several key items from the accused:
- A country-made pistol
- Multiple cartridges
- A mobile phone
- A white metal toe ring
- The knife allegedly used in the murder
The arrested individual has been identified as Irfan, a resident of Islampura. During interrogation, Irfan confessed to stabbing his friend Mohammad Hasnain to death on April 3rd in Varanasi. The motive behind the killing appears to be an old dispute between the two acquaintances.
Investigators revealed that Irfan had been continuously changing his location since the murder in an effort to evade arrest. His capture marks a significant breakthrough in this homicide case, bringing closure to a investigation that spanned multiple districts.
