A violent altercation over tobacco erupted in Mumbai's Worli area on Monday, resulting in a man allegedly stabbing two brothers. The Worli police have arrested the accused, identified as Nilesh Bhosale (34), a resident of BDD Chawl in Worli, and registered a case of attempted murder against him.
Incident Details
According to police officials, the dispute began three days ago when Bhosale approached his neighbor, Vijay Bhandare, and asked for tobacco. Bhandare refused to give him any, which led to a heated argument. On Monday, Bhosale allegedly confronted Vijay Bhandare again and attacked him with a knife, stabbing him multiple times on his chest, back, and hands. When Vijay's elder brother, Pradip Bhandare (61), intervened to help, Bhosale also attacked him, causing injuries.
Threats and Aftermath
Following the stabbing, Bhosale allegedly brandished the knife and threatened onlookers, causing panic among residents who fled the scene. The Bhandare brothers were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Their current condition has not been officially disclosed, but sources indicate that they are receiving necessary care.
The Worli police have taken Bhosale into custody and are investigating the matter further. An FIR has been filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for attempted murder and other charges. The motive behind the attack appears to be the refusal to share tobacco, highlighting how minor disputes can escalate into serious violence.
Residents of the BDD Chawl area expressed shock at the incident, emphasizing the need for better conflict resolution mechanisms in the community. Police have assured that strict action will be taken against the accused to ensure justice for the victims.
