In a commendable display of vigilance, a resident of a housing society in Vikhroli, Mumbai, successfully thwarted an attempted kidnapping of two minor girls on Wednesday evening. Alert Resident Spots Suspicious Activity
Mohammad Zakaria Qamar Naeem Shamsi, a 21-year-old resident of Damodar Park in the Maitri Co-operative Housing Society, was leaving his building when he noticed an unknown man holding the hand of a seven-year-old girl and attempting to lead her away. Shamsi's sharp observation didn't stop there; he also witnessed the same individual trying to lure another minor girl from a garden area where children were playing.
Sensing immediate danger, Shamsi raised an alarm, which prompted the accused to attempt a swift escape. However, with the assistance of two acquaintances who were present at the scene, Shamsi managed to apprehend the suspect and quickly alerted other residents in the society.
Suspect Apprehended and Handed Over to Police
The man was later identified as Sarjuprasad Keshulal Banwasi, a native of Madhya Pradesh. Upon questioning by residents, Banwasi provided vague and unsatisfactory responses, further heightening suspicions that his intentions were to abduct the children. The police were immediately informed and arrived promptly at the location, taking the accused into custody.
An official stated, "We have arrested and produced him before the court and sought his police custody. He is giving vague reasons and has denied that his intention was to kidnap." This arrest underscores the effectiveness of prompt community action in aiding law enforcement efforts.
