In a shocking incident of domestic violence, the Dahisar police in Mumbai have arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly slashing his wife and minor daughter with a blade, leaving both grievously injured. The accused, identified as Hanuman Sonwal, has been booked on charges of attempted murder.
Unemployment, Alcoholism, and Suspicions Led to Violence
According to police officials, the accused was unemployed and an alcoholic. The primary trigger for the violence appears to be Sonwal's suspicion regarding his wife's fidelity, which led to frequent fights between the couple. The family resides at Kokanipada in Dahisar East. Their daughter is 14 years old and studies in class VIII.
The First Information Report (FIR) was registered based on the brave statement given by the young daughter. She revealed to the police that her father often beat up her mother. If she ever tried to intervene and break up their fights, she would also be subjected to beatings. The situation had escalated to the point where the mother had filed for divorce in court.
A Terrifying Night Attack
The horrific attack unfolded in the early hours of December 1. While his wife and daughter were asleep, Sonwal allegedly took a blade and attacked them around 2:15 am. In the darkness, he first slashed his daughter on the neck.
The young girl woke up in fright when she sensed blood oozing from her wound and immediately turned on the lights. To her horror, she saw her father seated near her sleeping mother. She quickly grabbed his hand. Her mother also woke up and caught hold of her husband. However, in the struggle, Sonwal managed to slash his wife on her stomach with the blade.
Neighbours Intervene, Accused Handed Over to Police
The commotion and the alarm raised by Sonwal's mother-in-law, who was also present in the house, alerted the neighbours. They rushed to the spot and managed to overpower Sonwal. The locals then caught hold of the accused and handed him over to the Dahisar police.
Both victims were rushed for medical treatment. Police stated that the daughter required five stitches on her neck for the deep cut inflicted by the blade. The condition of the wife, who suffered a stomach injury, is also being treated.
In her statement, the daughter had also recounted that her father had previously threatened to kill both of them in their sleep and then die by suicide. The police investigation is ongoing, and the accused remains in custody.
