Violent Outburst at Mumbai Hospital Following Patient's Death

A distressing incident of violence unfolded at Cooper Hospital in Mumbai during the early hours of Saturday when a 35-year-old man allegedly assaulted medical staff following his mother's death during treatment.

The accused, identified as Sameer Abdul Jabbar Shaikh, 35, from SRA building at Sagar City area in Andheri (West), has been booked by Juhu police under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.

Medical Emergency Turns Tragic

According to police reports, the chain of events began when Shaikh brought his 57-year-old mother, Saida, to the hospital around 12:10 am on Saturday. The elderly woman was experiencing breathing difficulties and was immediately taken to the casualty department.

Medical officer Dr. Gaurav Anandgaonkar, 25, who was on duty at the time, began examining the patient along with Dr. Prashant Bhadke. Their initial assessment revealed alarming signs - the patient's blood pressure was non-recordable and her carotid pulse was weak.

Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, Dr. Anandgaonkar promptly alerted the medicine department and consulted Dr. Karan Desai about the patient's critical condition.

Failed Resuscitation Efforts

The medical team initiated immediate life-saving measures, including CPR and ECG monitoring. Despite their continuous efforts, the patient showed no response to treatment.

Tragically, the ECG reports displayed a flat line, indicating that the patient had passed away during treatment. The doctors had no choice but to declare her dead.

Police officials noted that throughout the medical intervention, Shaikh had been threatening the doctors, warning them that they would "face the consequences" if anything happened to his mother.

Violent Reaction to Tragic News

When the doctors informed Shaikh about his mother's passing, the situation escalated dramatically. The grieving son allegedly began abusing the medical staff physically and verbally.

The security personnel and police officers present at the hospital quickly intervened to restrain Shaikh and prevent further violence against the three doctors.

Following the incident, the affected doctors approached the Juhu police station, where a formal First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Shaikh under the appropriate sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.

This incident highlights the growing concern about violence against healthcare professionals in India and raises important questions about patient relative behavior during medical emergencies.
