Tragic Fires Claim Three Lives in Separate Mumbai Incidents
In a devastating series of events, three individuals lost their lives in two separate fire incidents that occurred in Mumbai on Friday. The blazes broke out in the Kamathipura and Bhayander East areas, highlighting ongoing fire safety concerns in the city's densely populated neighborhoods.
Kamathipura Chawl Fire Claims One Life
The first incident unfolded around 3:40 PM in a ground-plus-two-storey chawl located on 9th Lane near Shankar Mandir in Kamathipura. According to fire brigade officials, the blaze was confined to electrical wiring, installations, air conditioning units, fans, clothes, and various household items. It was successfully doused within half an hour by 4:10 PM.
Firefighters initially received information that no one was trapped inside the structure. However, upon breaking through locked shutters to access the first and second floors, they discovered Suraj Anand, a 32-year-old man, in an unconscious condition in one of the rooms. He was immediately rushed to JJ Hospital, where he was declared dead.
The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation, with officials suggesting it could be due to a short circuit. The chawl contained approximately 10 rooms, adding to the complexity of the rescue operation.
Bhayander East Slum Fire Results in Two Fatalities
In a second tragic incident, a fire erupted in a slum area in Indralok Phase 4 in Bhayander East around 9:00 PM. Police confirmed that two bodies were found at the scene, though they have yet to be identified. The blaze gutted several huts before being brought under control by the fire brigade.
To prevent further damage and potential explosions, approximately 23 LPG cylinders were swiftly removed from the site. This proactive measure likely averted additional casualties and property destruction.
Additional Warehouse Fire Reported in Mira Road
Around the same time as the Bhayander East incident, officials reported another fire in a warehouse at Maschapada in Mira Road. Details regarding casualties or damage in this third blaze are still emerging, but it underscores a pattern of fire-related emergencies in the region on Friday.
These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the fire risks in Mumbai's crowded residential and commercial areas. Authorities continue to investigate the exact causes, while communities grapple with the loss and damage.
