Tragic Accident in Mumbai Claims Life of One-Year-Old Boy
A devastating incident unfolded in the heart of Mumbai on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the death of a one-year-old baby boy and injuries to his 68-year-old grandmother. The tragic event occurred in the Khetwadi area of Girgaum when a school bus allegedly knocked down the duo.

The accident took place at approximately 12:15 PM near the Nirmal Niketan building in Khetwadi. According to police sources, the school bus had arrived at the location to drop off and pick up school children. At the same time, Chandrakala Shivram Vyas, a 68-year-old local resident, had come to drop her granddaughter to the same bus. She was carrying her one-year-old grandson in her arms during this routine errand.
After Vyas' granddaughter safely boarded the bus, the grandmother began crossing the road in front of the vehicle. It was at this critical moment that the driver allegedly moved the bus forward, resulting in the tragic collision. The impact proved fatal for the infant while Vyas sustained significant injuries.
Immediate Response and Medical Attention
Following the incident, the bus came to a halt and local residents quickly gathered at the scene. Both the injured grandmother and the critically injured baby were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical care. Despite medical efforts, doctors pronounced the one-year-old boy dead upon arrival. Chandrakala Vyas is currently undergoing treatment for her injuries at the hospital.
Police investigations have revealed that Vyas' son operates a ceramics shop in the area, adding another layer of tragedy to this already devastating incident for the family.

The D B Marg police have taken swift action in response to this heartbreaking incident. The bus driver, identified as 46-year-old Sambhaji Vakhare, has been taken into custody and legal proceedings are underway. As part of standard procedure following such accidents, police took the driver to the hospital where his blood samples were collected to determine if he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. The test results are currently awaited by investigating authorities.
