Police in Madhya Pradesh have taken decisive action following the emergence of a deeply disturbing video from the Ambah area of Morena district. The footage, which went viral on social media platforms, captured a Dalit youth being subjected to severe humiliation and abuse after a minor dispute.
Swift Police Response to Viral Clip
Authorities moved quickly after the video came to their attention. Morena Superintendent of Police Sameer Saurabh provided details to the media, stating that both the victim and the accused were identified promptly after the clip gained traction online.
The police registered a case against the accused under the Prevention of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Atrocities) Act, along with other applicable legal sections, leading to his arrest on Tuesday.
Seven-Month-Old Incident Comes to Light
Investigations revealed that the incident captured in the viral video actually occurred approximately seven months prior to its circulation. Both parties involved confirmed the authenticity of the events shown in the footage.
"While no formal complaint was lodged by any individual regarding this matter, we took cognisance of the video clip and initiated suo motu action," explained SP Sameer Saurabh, highlighting the proactive approach taken by law enforcement.
Details of the Accused and Victim
The arrested individual has been identified as Dharmendra Tomar, a 32-year-old resident of Retpura locality within Ambah police station limits. Police records indicate he has a history of previous criminal activities.
The victim, whose identity has been protected, was residing as a tenant in the same lane as the accused. The inhuman treatment allegedly stemmed from a petty disagreement between the two individuals.
Disturbing Nature of the Viral Footage
The video content that prompted police intervention showed particularly degrading acts:
- The Dalit youth was forced to bend and crouch in humiliating positions
- He was compelled to physically beat himself under coercion
- The footage captured him being pressured into performing obscene acts with himself
This case has brought attention to the ongoing challenges in addressing caste-based discrimination and violence in certain regions, while also demonstrating how social media can sometimes serve as a catalyst for justice when traditional complaint mechanisms fail.
