Tragic Morning in Bengaluru Claims Mother and Son
A heartbreaking accident unfolded on a Monday morning in Bengaluru. A college bus struck and killed a woman and her young son near the Vivek Nagar bus stop. The incident occurred on Srinivagilu Main Road between 6:45 AM and 6:50 AM.
Victims Identified as School Helper and Student
The victims were Sangeetha, aged 37, and her eight-year-old son Partha. They were walking to Partha's school at the time. His classes began at 7:20 AM. Sangeetha worked as a helper at Army Public School, where Partha studied in Class II.
The family originally came from Sangam in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. They lived in Andhra Colony within Vivek Nagar.
Bus Belonged to Jain University
Police confirmed the bus involved bore the registration number KA-51-AL-7920. It belonged to the Global Campus of Jain (Deemed-to-be) University in Kanakapura. The bus was transporting lecturers when the accident happened.
A senior police officer explained the circumstances. "The driver was taking a right turn and failed to notice the woman and her son crossing the road." Both Sangeetha and Partha sustained severe injuries. They died at the spot.
Driver Flees, Then Arrested
The driver, identified as 24-year-old Sunil, abandoned the vehicle immediately after the crash. He reportedly fled the scene fearing an attack from angry local residents who had gathered. Police later arrested him.
An alcohol test conducted on the driver returned a negative result. Ashok Nagar traffic police have registered a case against Sunil. The investigation is ongoing.
Aftermath and Community Grief
Authorities shifted the bodies to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital for post-mortem examination. The remains were later handed over to the grieving family.
Police cleared the bus from the road to ease traffic congestion. Meanwhile, residents of the area mourned the tragic loss of the mother and child. The community expressed deep sorrow over the preventable incident.
