Bengaluru: A reckless driving incident involving a minivan near BDA Indraprastha Apartment in Kengeri on Mysore Road claimed a life and left six others injured after it rammed into multiple vehicles before overturning on Saturday morning.
Accident Details
The accident occurred at around 6:45 am. According to the complaint filed by Mallu, 23, an eyewitness who works at a fuel station, the minivan bearing registration number KA-50-MB-4544 was traveling from the RV College side towards Kengeri when the driver lost control and swerved abruptly to the left.
The van first crashed into a scooter and a bike that were traveling ahead in the same direction. The impact caused the van to overturn and slam into an electric pole on the roadside.
Casualties and Injuries
During the crash, the riders of the two-wheelers and Sukhdev, a 41-year-old resident of Marathahalli, who was traveling in the minivan, were thrown onto the road. Sukhdev sustained critical injuries and died while being shifted to the hospital.
The injured include Parejan, the scooter rider, who sustained head and other bodily injuries, and Ashoka and Rahul, who were traveling on the bike and suffered multiple injuries. Other occupants of the van, including Abhijit and Bhagirath, also sustained injuries. All the injured were admitted to a hospital for treatment.
Investigation and Legal Action
Preliminary investigations suggest that rash and negligent driving by the minivan driver, identified as Swaroop Chand (25), led to the chain-reaction collision. He escaped with minor injuries. Parejan's condition is critical, while the others are out of danger.
Kengeri Traffic Police have registered a case against Chand. Chand and the others were traveling towards Mysuru for work.
