Mentalist Aathi Faces Police Case Over Rs 35 Lakh Investment Fraud in Kochi
The Ernakulam Central police in Kochi have taken legal action against popular mentalist performer Aathi, following serious allegations of financial fraud. The case was officially registered on Friday after a resident of Kochi came forward with a complaint, accusing Aathi, whose real name is Adarsh Kolladoth, of defrauding him of a substantial sum of Rs 35 lakh.
Details of the Alleged Fraud Scheme
According to the police complaint, the accused approached the complainant with what seemed like a lucrative investment opportunity. The proposal centered around funding the production of Aathi's show titled 'Insomnia', with promises of significant profit shares in return. Trusting these assurances, the victim, along with his wife, reportedly transferred the funds in two separate instalments, believing they were investing in a legitimate venture.
Victim's Allegations and Police Investigation
The complainant has alleged that when they later sought to recover their investment, Aathi not only failed to return the promised profits but also did not refund the original Rs 35 lakh. Shockingly, the victim claims that Aathi 'mocked' them during this process, adding to their distress. In response, the police have initiated a detailed probe, examining bank statements and digital transactions to trace the flow of money and gather evidence related to the case.
Involvement of Director Jis Joy and His Response
In a twist to the case, police have also booked three other individuals, including well-known director Jis Joy, as part of the investigation. Jis Joy, identified as the fourth accused, has strongly denied any wrongdoing, stating that he has been falsely implicated. He announced plans to take legal action to clear his name and mentioned, 'Once Aathi returns from abroad, we will meet the media together', suggesting a coordinated response to the allegations.
Broader Implications and Ongoing Probe
This incident highlights growing concerns over financial fraud in the entertainment and performance sectors, where investment opportunities can sometimes be misrepresented. The Ernakulam Central police are continuing their investigation, focusing on uncovering the full extent of the alleged fraud and ensuring justice for the victims. As the case unfolds, it serves as a cautionary tale for investors to verify opportunities thoroughly before committing funds.
