A horrific incident of abduction and murder has shaken Kapsad village in Meerut, where a 50-year-old Dalit woman lost her life while trying to protect her daughter from kidnappers. The attack, which occurred on Thursday, has triggered widespread outrage and a major police investigation.
The Fatal Confrontation
The victim bravely stepped in when two local men, identified as Paras Som (23) and Sunil Kumar (25), attempted to abduct her 20-year-old daughter. In the ensuing struggle, the assailants struck the mother on the head with a sharp weapon. They then fled the scene with the young woman, leaving the grievously injured mother behind. She later succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital.
Before her death, the woman gave a statement to authorities. "Paras misbehaved with my daughter. When I protested, he started beating and abusing me. He hit my head with a sharp instrument," she recounted. The police have confirmed that both accused are currently on the run.
Police Response and Political Reactions
Meerut's Senior Superintendent of Police, Vipin Tada, stated that an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder and abduction, along with provisions of the SC/ST Act. The investigation has been intensified significantly. "We have doubled the number of investigation teams from the initial five to 10," SSP Tada said. He added that based on clues, police teams have been dispatched to neighboring states like Haryana and Delhi.
The case gained further sensitivity as it emerged that the victim and the accused belong to different communities. Assuring swift action, Meerut Zone ADG Bhanu Bhaskar said, "We have assured the family that every possible measure is being taken to recover their daughter and bring the perpetrators to justice."
District Magistrate VK Singh announced substantial financial aid for the grieving family. "A total of Rs 10 lakh has been given to the family from the CM relief fund, and they will receive an additional Rs 12 lakh by the time the chargesheet is filed in court," he stated.
Outrage and Condemnation
The incident drew sharp reactions from political leaders who visited the family on Friday. Former Union minister Sanjeev Balyan appealed for patience. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati took to social media platform X, urging the government to treat such violations of women's dignity with utmost seriousness and take strict, immediate action. Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav also posted on X, criticizing the ruling BJP government for its alleged patronage of criminals, leading to a loss of public faith.
The case remains a top priority for the Uttar Pradesh police as they continue their search for the abducted woman and the fugitive accused.
