In a disturbing incident in Mathura, a 32-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by two men after she left her home following a dispute with her husband. Police officials confirmed the details on Tuesday, stating that the two accused were later arrested after an encounter in which one of them sustained a gunshot injury.

According to Jasveer Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Mathura police station, the woman left her home on the afternoon of March 14. The duo found her alone, overpowered her, and committed the rape. After returning home, she informed her husband about the assault, prompting the registration of a First Information Report (FIR). The case was filed under BNS section 70(1) for gang rape and section 71(1) for repeated sexual offence.
Following a medical examination of the victim, police launched an intensive search for the accused. Acting on a tip-off, they tracked the suspects near the Radharani underpass in the early hours of Tuesday. During the arrest attempt, Rajkumar, aged 24, opened fire at the officers. In retaliatory firing, he suffered a bullet injury and was overpowered in an injured condition, while his accomplice, Durgesh, surrendered immediately.

DSP Sandeep Singh provided further details, noting that Rajkumar was admitted to a hospital and remains in police custody. Authorities recovered a country-made pistol and three cartridges from the scene. Investigations revealed that Rajkumar has a criminal record, including a 2025 case of sexual assault involving a minor, highlighting a pattern of violent behavior.
After the encounter, police registered a separate FIR against both accused under BNS section 109(1) for attempt to murder and relevant sections of the Arms Act. This additional charge underscores the severity of their actions during the arrest operation.
