Mangaluru Police Apprehend Long-Time Fugitive After Nine-Year Pursuit

In a significant breakthrough, the Urwa police station in Mangaluru city has successfully arrested an absconding accused who had been evading law enforcement for the past nine years. The individual was wanted in connection with several criminal cases registered across various police stations in the city, marking the end of a prolonged manhunt.

Details of the Arrested Accused and Criminal Charges

The arrested accused has been identified as Suhan, also known as Sonu, aged 33, and a resident of Ashok Nagar in Mangaluru. According to police reports, he faced multiple charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) spanning several years. Specifically, a case was registered at the Urwa police station in 2016 under Sections 399 and 120(b) of the IPC, followed by another case in 2017 at the same station under Sections 120(b), 399, 402, and 188 of the IPC. Additionally, in 2020, a case was booked at the Mangaluru North police station under Sections 143, 147, 148, 504, 506, 323, 324, read with Section 149 of the IPC.

Notably, in one of the cases filed at the Urwa police station, a long pending case (LPC) warrant had been issued against him by a court, intensifying the search efforts.

Operation and Arrest in Mumbai

Acting on credible intelligence, a dedicated police team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Lakshman from the Urwa police station traced the accused to Mumbai, Maharashtra. The operation culminated in his arrest on March 29, 2024, after years of evasion. Following the apprehension, the accused was transported back to Mangaluru and presented before a local court. The court subsequently remanded him to judicial custody, pending further legal proceedings.

An investigation into the full extent of his alleged involvement in these criminal activities is currently ongoing, with authorities working to uncover additional details and ensure justice is served.
