National Road Safety Month Inaugurated in Mangaluru
Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Zaibunnisa, officially inaugurated the 37th National Road Safety Month programme on Monday. The event, held at the RTO auditorium, was a collaborative effort involving the district administration, the District Legal Services Authority, the transport department, and the police department.
Judge Zaibunnisa expressed deep concern over the recent spike in road fatalities across the state. She stated that the tragic loss of numerous lives in preventable accidents underscores an urgent public safety crisis. Her central message was clear and direct: following traffic rules meticulously is the singular, most reliable method to protect lives on the road.
Addressing the Core Causes and Awareness Gap
During her address, the judge pinpointed the primary culprits behind most road mishaps. She specifically identified over-speeding, drunken driving, and rash and negligent driving as the major causes of accidents. Beyond enforcement, she stressed a critical need for comprehensive public education on road safety norms.
Zaibunnisa highlighted a worrying trend of insufficient legal awareness, particularly among the youth. She argued that creating greater public understanding and fostering a culture of voluntary cooperation with traffic laws are essential steps forward. The campaign aims to bridge this knowledge gap and encourage behavioral change.
Officials Rally for a Safer Road Culture
The programme was presided over by Senior RTO Muragendra Basavraj Shirolkar, signaling the transport department's commitment to the cause. ACP Traffic Sub-Division Najma Farooqi was also present, along with other officials, demonstrating a unified front from key governing bodies.
