Mandya district police have successfully cracked a house robbery that occurred earlier this month, leading to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of gold ornaments valued at over Rs 4.3 lakh. The case was registered on June 9 based on a complaint filed by Nagaraju, a resident of Alakere village in Keragodu hobli, Mandya taluk.
Incident Details
According to Nagaraju's complaint, he left home early in the morning after milking his cows and visiting the dairy, leaving the front door latched from outside while his son Kiran was asleep inside. Police investigations revealed that an intruder entered the house around 5 am by opening the latch. The accused then locked Kiran's room from outside and proceeded to the bedroom where Nagaraju's wife Leelamma was asleep. The intruder attempted to snatch her mangalsutra (sacred necklace). When Leelamma resisted, the accused allegedly struck her with an iron rod, causing a head injury, and fled with a 40-gram gold chain.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Following the complaint, Keragodu police launched a probe. A team led by Circle Inspector M Manjunath tracked down and arrested two individuals: Mahadevappa, 58, a cook from Alakere, and S Mahesh, 39, a daily wage labourer from Marigowda Layout in Mandya city. Mandya SP VJ Shobharani confirmed the arrests and stated that police recovered 33.4 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 4,34,200 from the accused.
