Man, woman killed by train near Garhi Harsaru station

A tragic incident on the Delhi-Rewari railway line claimed the lives of a man and a woman on Wednesday evening. The two were struck by the Shakur Basti–Jaisalmer Swarna Nagari Express near Garhi Harsaru railway station in Gurgaon.

Timeline of the Fatal Incident

The accident occurred around 7 pm on Wednesday. According to a Government Railway Police (GRP) officer, the loco pilot of the Swarna Nagari Express alerted the railway control room at approximately 7.20 pm. The pilot reported that a man standing close to the tracks suddenly moved in front of the train near Garhi Harsaru.

Following the alert, a team from the GRP immediately rushed to the location to begin their inspection and investigation.

Discovery of the Bodies and Police Investigation

Upon reaching the spot, the police made a grim discovery. Both bodies were found on the Delhi-to-Rewari up track, lying nearly 100 metres apart. The man's body was located on the track itself. About a hundred metres ahead, the woman's body was found.

This positioning suggests that both individuals were hit moments apart by the same train. Police officials stated that the victims appeared to be between 40 and 45 years old. Initial suspicion is that the two may have been husband and wife, but confirmation is pending formal identification.

To trace the relatives of the deceased, GRP teams have launched a detailed search. They are:

  • Checking missing-person records from nearby villages, colonies, and adjoining towns.
  • Speaking to local residents and shopkeepers in the area to gather any helpful information.

Next Steps and Official Statements

The bodies have been sent to the mortuary for preservation. Police have clarified that post-mortem examinations will be conducted only after the identities of the victims are confirmed. The process of identification is currently the primary focus of the investigation.

The GRP continues to probe the exact circumstances that led the two individuals onto the tracks at that hour. The incident has highlighted once again the dangers associated with being near railway tracks, especially around station areas.
