Karnataka Government Employee's Tech-Savvy Pursuit Exposes Police Inaction in Hyderabad

In a striking demonstration of individual initiative overcoming bureaucratic inertia, a government employee from Karnataka took matters into his own hands after police failed to act on his stolen phone report. His technological detective work not only recovered his device but also exposed a cache of 10 additional stolen smartphones, ultimately leading to disciplinary action against five Hyderabad police officers.

Frustration with Official Channels Sparks Independent Investigation

Shiva Kumar, who was visiting Hyderabad on official business approximately two weeks ago, reported the theft of his mobile phone near Secunderabad railway station to the Chilkalguda police station. Instead of the urgent response he anticipated, officers instructed him to return at a later time. "Hoping for swift action, I approached the police first," Shiva recounted. "But I was met with indifference rather than urgency."

Undeterred by this initial setback, Shiva leveraged technology available through his second phone, which was linked to the same email account as the stolen device. Using the phone's built-in tracking feature, he pinpointed its location to the Mehdipatnam area of Hyderabad.

Police Apathy Continues as Citizen Takes Charge

When Shiva presented this technological evidence to Mehdipatnam police, the response proved equally disappointing. Officers merely provided him with a beat policeman's contact number, which was consistently switched off. Recognizing that valuable investigative time was rapidly disappearing, Shiva made the decisive choice to pursue the matter independently.

"Realizing precious time was slipping away with each passing hour, I decided to act on my own," Shiva explained. "I started tracking the phone's location in real-time and followed the signal to Tipu Khan bridge."

Confrontation and Discovery of Multiple Stolen Devices

At the bridge location, Shiva encountered five individuals who immediately fled upon seeing him. Continuing his technological pursuit, he monitored the moving signal until it indicated the suspect was nearby. "I finally spotted him at a bus stop engaged in conversation with another person," Shiva detailed. "I approached and successfully retrieved my phone from his possession."

Although the accused managed to escape the scene, he abandoned a bag during his flight. Inside this bag, Shiva made a startling discovery: not only his own device but 10 additional stolen smartphones, all of which were continuously receiving incoming calls. "The phones were ringing constantly, clearly indicating they were all active stolen devices," he added.

Police Commissioner Takes Action Following Complaint

Shiva's persistent efforts and the concerning discovery of multiple stolen devices captured the attention of Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar. After Shiva directly communicated his experience and the police inaction he encountered, Commissioner Sajjanar initiated an immediate investigation.

"The complainant called me and shared his complete experience," Sajjanar stated. "I ordered a thorough probe which revealed significant irregularities in the conduct of five police officers. Based on these findings, all five have been suspended from duty."

In recognition of his civic responsibility and technological resourcefulness, Commissioner Sajjanar personally felicitated Shiva at the police commissioner's office. This case highlights how individual determination combined with accessible technology can sometimes achieve what official channels fail to accomplish, while simultaneously exposing systemic shortcomings in law enforcement responsiveness.
