Karnataka Man Allegedly Shaves Wife's Head Over Infidelity Suspicion in Bagalkot Village
In a shocking incident from rural Karnataka, a 31-year-old man has been accused of shaving his wife's head with an electric trimmer, driven by suspicions of her infidelity. The disturbing event unfolded in Todalabagi village, located within the limits of the Savalagi police station in Bagalkot district.
Details of the Alleged Assault
According to police reports, the accused, identified as Umesh Kalinga Kottalagi, carried out this act on January 31 following a heated quarrel with his wife. The confrontation reportedly began when a member of a sugarcane cutting team arrived at their home to collect dinner for fellow labourers. Villagers stated that Kottalagi initiated the argument, accusing his wife of having an affair with the team member after she delayed in opening the door.
The victim's parents have alleged that their son-in-law had a history of harassing her, frequently doubting her character and loyalty. Despite attempts by village elders to counsel the couple and encourage a peaceful resolution, Kottalagi's behaviour reportedly remained unchanged, culminating in this extreme act of violence.
Police Action and Investigation
Superintendent of Police Siddharth Goyal provided details on the case, confirming that the wife filed a formal complaint against her husband. In her statement, she accused him of assaulting her, shaving her head, and even attempting to murder her during the incident.
"The complaint specifically mentions the assault and head-shaving incident that occurred on January 31," SP Goyal stated. "While there is no mention of ongoing domestic violence or dowry harassment in this particular complaint, the victim has clearly described the threats to her life. We have arrested the accused and produced him before the court. A thorough investigation is currently underway."
This case has drawn attention to issues of gender-based violence and marital disputes in rural areas, highlighting the urgent need for community intervention and legal support for victims. Authorities continue to examine all aspects of the incident to ensure justice is served.
