Brutal Attack in Badaun Leaves Youth with 70% Burns
In a shocking incident that has rattled Uttar Pradesh's Badaun district, a 20-year-old man suffered catastrophic burn injuries exceeding 70% after being tied to an electric pole and set on fire by three minors. The horrific attack occurred on Friday in the Mustafabad Nai Basti area under Islamnagar police station jurisdiction.
Prayer Time Dispute Turns Violent
The victim, identified as Mahboob, was returning home after offering Friday prayers when the three juvenile accused intercepted him. According to police reports, the attackers tied Mahboob to a pole, doused him with petrol, and deliberately set him ablaze. The incident appears to stem from a verbal altercation that occurred a day earlier during prayers at a local mosque, though no formal complaint had been registered about the dispute prior to the attack.
Miraculous Escape and Critical Condition
In a miraculous turn of events, Mahboob managed to break free when the ropes binding him burned away. Despite his severe injuries, he reached his home while screaming for help. Family members immediately rushed him to a community health center where doctors classified his condition as critical. Due to the severity of his burns, he was subsequently referred to the district hospital for specialized treatment.
Mahboob's maternal uncle, Kaisar, provided a grim update to reporters, stating that the victim suffered such extensive burns that swelling around his eyes has rendered him temporarily blind. However, he confirmed that Mahboob could identify his attackers once his medical condition improves sufficiently.
Police Investigation Reveals Suspicious Circumstances
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Hirdayesh Kumar Katheria disclosed that all three juveniles named by the victim have been detained for questioning. The police investigation has uncovered several puzzling aspects, including evidence suggesting Mahboob himself purchased petrol from a nearby fuel station around the time of the incident.
CCTV footage from the petrol pump has been collected as evidence, and authorities have described the circumstances as suspicious. "Further inquiry is underway to establish the exact sequence of events and determine the motive behind the incident," Officer Katheria noted, emphasizing that the investigation continues to develop.
