A late-night argument over bun-butter and tea at a roadside stall in Lucknow's Mahanagar area escalated dramatically when a 38-year-old man allegedly posed as an IPS officer, demanded salutes from on-duty policemen, and was eventually taken into custody.

The accused, Mithilesh Shukla, was arrested by Mahanagar police on charges of impersonation and obstructing government work. He was sent to jail on Tuesday, according to SHO Akhilesh Mishra.
On the night of June 15, Shukla reportedly got into a dispute with tea vendor Viru Gupta over payment. When a patrol team arrived, Shukla claimed to be an IPS officer posted in Noida and demanded that the officers salute him. He also inspected their uniforms and caps.
Unraveling the Facade
Shukla's behavior raised suspicions. When asked for identification, he claimed he did not have it and left, promising to return with proof. Hours later, police received fresh complaints of the same man causing a disturbance at the stall. He was brought to the police station, where his impersonation fell apart.
During questioning, Shukla admitted he was not an officer. Police revealed he works as an accounts executive at a private firm in Noida.
