Man kills wife over salty biryani in Mumbai, arrested

A shocking case of domestic violence has emerged from Mumbai, where a young man allegedly killed his wife following a heated argument over the preparation of biryani. The incident, which highlights the tragic consequences of unresolved marital disputes, occurred in the city's Govandi area.

Argument Over Food Turns Fatal

The tragic event unfolded on the evening of December 19, 2025. According to police officials from the Shivaji Nagar police station, the accused, Manjar Imam Hussain (23), was having dinner when he complained to his wife, Nazia Parveen (20), that the biryani she had cooked was "tasteless and had excess salt."

What began as a verbal altercation quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. In a reported fit of rage, Manjar allegedly hit Nazia's head against a wall, causing severe injuries that led to her death. The commotion alerted neighbours, who found the young woman unconscious.

A Marriage Marred by Frequent Quarrels

Investigations reveal that the couple's relationship was strained. Police stated that Manjar and Nazia, who were cousins, had been in a relationship for nearly two years before marrying on October 20, 2023, in Uttar Pradesh with their families' consent. They later moved to Mumbai, living in a rented room in Shivaji Nagar, Govandi, where Manjar worked for a private firm.

Officers indicated that the pair often argued over "minor issues." Disputes ranged from Manjar's phone conversations, which sparked Nazia's suspicion, to frequent disagreements over food, as Manjar was often dissatisfied with her cooking. Nazia had reportedly informed her family in Uttar Pradesh about the ongoing quarrels.

Arrest and Aftermath

After the incident, Nazia was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her dead. The police conducted a panchnama (spot inspection) and informed her parents in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday morning, December 21. Her father works in Saudi Arabia, while her mother is a homemaker in their native Kushinagar district, caring for Nazia's two younger sisters and a 10-year-old brother.

Following the arrival of Nazia's uncle in Mumbai on Sunday night, December 22, a formal statement was recorded. Based on this, a case of murder was registered against Manjar Imam Hussain. He was arrested on Sunday and remains in police custody, facing murder charges.

This distressing case serves as a grim reminder of the extreme outcomes that can result from unchecked domestic conflict and anger.
