A shocking incident of domestic violence stemming from a quarrel over household responsibilities has resulted in a murder in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallur district. A 28-year-old man allegedly stabbed his sister-in-law to death after she verbally abused his wife, who reportedly did not help with domestic work.
The Families and the Festering Dispute
The tragic event occurred in Irulancheri village, located near Kadambathur. According to police, two brothers lived together in the same house with their families. The elder brother, Ilayaraja, aged 30, lived with his wife, Shanthi, 26, and their two young daughters.
His younger brother, Isaimegham, 28, had married Lavanya, 24, just four months ago. Police sources indicate that tension had been brewing between the two women, Shanthi and Lavanya, for some time. The core of their conflict was the division and completion of household chores, leading to frequent arguments.
The Fatal Night of Violence
The situation reached a deadly climax on Sunday night. After Ilayaraja left the house, Isaimegham confronted his sister-in-law, Shanthi. He was angered because Shanthi had been verbally abusing his wife, Lavanya, allegedly over the same issue of domestic help.
This confrontation quickly escalated into a heated argument. In a fit of rage, Isaimegham went to the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and attacked Shanthi. He stabbed her multiple times, with blows landing on her neck, jaw, and hands.
Aftermath and Police Action
Hearing the commotion, neighbours rushed to the scene. They immediately took the critically injured Shanthi to the Perambakkam Primary Health Centre. Unfortunately, her injuries were too severe, and doctors at the centre declared her dead on arrival.
Following the murder, the accused, Isaimegham, did not flee. He proceeded directly to the Mappedu police station and surrendered to the authorities. Police have registered a case and are conducting a detailed investigation into the sequence of events that led to this extreme act of violence within a family.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the local community in Irulancheri village, highlighting how domestic disputes, if left unresolved, can sometimes spiral into unthinkable tragedy.
