Ghaziabad Man Held for Alleged Matricide Over Minor Financial Dispute
In a shocking incident from Ghaziabad, a 23-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his mother after she tried to prevent him from attacking a coworker over a mere Rs 1,200 in unpaid dues. The tragic event unfolded in Bhudgarhi village, located in the Masuri area, highlighting a brutal case of domestic violence stemming from financial tensions.
Details of the Alleged Crime and Initial Deception
The accused, identified as Anil Kumar, is alleged to have attacked his mother, Leela Devi, with an axe and subsequently struck her with a stone while in an inebriated state. According to police reports, the incident occurred on March 8, when Kumar's father and sister were away in Delhi. Kumar admitted to consuming alcohol and becoming enraged over Rs 1,200 that a coworker owed him.
In his initial statement to authorities, Kumar attempted to mislead investigators by blaming two neighbours, Dabbu and Jasveer. He claimed that a dispute over the unpaid dues had escalated, leading to an altercation where his mother was hit on the head with a brick when she intervened. He further stated that Leela Devi returned home, went to sleep, and did not wake up the next morning, with family members later finding her dead at a nearby hospital.
Police Investigation Uncovers the Truth
During the investigation, officers found no evidence linking the neighbours to the incident and noted inconsistencies in Kumar's account. Upon further questioning, Kumar confessed to the actual sequence of events. He revealed that he had picked up an axe with the intent to attack his coworker, but his mother intervened to stop him. In a fit of anger, he allegedly struck her on the head with the axe and then hit her with a stone, rendering her unconscious.
Investigators stated that Kumar then locked the room from the outside and went to sleep in another part of the house. The next morning, upon realising his mother had died, he fabricated the story to shift blame onto his neighbours. During a forensic inspection, police recovered the axe and a stone, believed to be the weapons used in the attack, from beneath a wooden cot in the residence.
Arrest and Ongoing Verification
Kumar has been arrested by the police, and authorities are currently verifying his criminal history to determine if he has any prior records. This case underscores the severe consequences of alcohol-fueled violence and the tragic outcomes that can arise from minor financial disagreements within families.
The incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of conflict resolution and the devastating impact of domestic disputes. Police continue to investigate the matter thoroughly to ensure justice is served for the victim, Leela Devi.
