According to police reports, a wedding was underway at the house of Jageshwar Sahni in Manikpur, with the baraat or groom's procession arriving from a nearby village. Rahul Kumar, who was returning home on a tractor, found his way obstructed and requested the group to clear the road, sparking an initial argument. Rahul's father, Vinod Sahni, alleged that his son stayed back to watch the darwaza lagna ritual after the initial confrontation. Following the ceremony, some individuals from the baraat allegedly abducted Rahul from the road and subjected him to a brutal assault. When Rahul failed to return home late at night, his family initiated a frantic search, only to find his lifeless body the next morning, abandoned in a remote location.

Minapur police swiftly responded to the scene, taking custody of the body and transporting it to Shri Krishna Medical College Hospital (SKMCH) for a post-mortem examination.
