A tragic hit-and-run incident on the Dwarka Expressway late Monday night claimed the life of a 38-year-old man, with police citing dense fog and poor visibility as likely contributing factors.

Victim Identified as Unemployed Labourer

The deceased has been identified as Mehrul Islam, a native of West Bengal who was living in Gurgaon. According to police officials, Islam worked as a daily-wage labourer but was currently unemployed at the time of the accident.

Sequence of the Fatal Incident

The accident occurred around 11 pm on Monday night. Islam was returning after meeting a relative in Sector 83. As he reached near AVL Society, he attempted to cross the expressway to get a lift towards his rented accommodation in Sector 37.

At that moment, an unidentified speeding vehicle hit him. The driver did not stop and fled the spot, leaving Islam critically injured on the road.

Police Response and Legal Action

Around 11:30 pm, the police control room received information about a man lying injured on the expressway. A team rushed to the spot and found Islam unconscious with severe head injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Following the incident, a crime branch team and a forensic science laboratory (FSL) team inspected the site for evidence. The Sector 37 police station has registered a case under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Authorities are investigating the incident and searching for the unidentified vehicle involved in the fatal hit-and-run.
