A shocking incident of sexual assault has been reported from a village under the Sajeti police station area in Kanpur, where a 26-year-old man stands accused of raping a minor girl, who is a distant relative. The alleged crime took place on Tuesday night in a field, sending ripples of anger through the local community.
Wedding Gathering Turns Tragic
The sequence of events began when the minor girl accompanied her mother to a wedding function in a village falling under the Chandpur police station area of neighbouring Fatehpur district. According to the complaint, the girl did not return home after the event, prompting her mother to launch a search.
The search led the distressed mother to a field, where she discovered her daughter. The accused, identified as Gaurav, a resident of a village in the Bakewar police station area, was also present at the wedding as he is part of the girl's extended family circle.
Apprehension and Police Action
It is alleged that Gaurav lured the minor girl to the isolated field and then raped her. Alert villagers, upon learning of the incident, managed to apprehend the accused at the scene itself. He was subsequently handed over to the police by the villagers.
On Wednesday, following a formal complaint lodged by the victim's mother, the Sajeti police registered a case. Station House Officer Awdhesh Kumar confirmed that the accused has been taken into custody. "A report was registered based on the mother's complaint," stated Kumar.
Medical Examination and Legal Process
In line with standard procedure, the police arranged for the minor survivor to be taken to a community health centre for a thorough medical examination. This step is crucial for collecting forensic evidence that will be vital for the legal proceedings ahead.
