Man Arrested for Alleged Misconduct with Minor at Thodupuzha Bus Stand
In a disturbing incident that has raised concerns about public safety, a 29-year-old man was arrested on Monday evening for allegedly misbehaving with a schoolgirl at the private bus stand in Thodupuzha. The accused, identified as Jaseer Jabbar, a native of Elamdesam in Thodupuzha, reportedly approached the minor while she was waiting for a bus and engaged her in inappropriate conversation.
Immediate Intervention by Passengers and Family
The girl, a resident of Kolani, swiftly resisted the advances, pushing back against the accused. Her actions drew the attention of other passengers at the bus stand, who promptly intervened to prevent further escalation. Upon being informed of the situation, the girl's father and a relative rushed to the spot. In a fit of anger, they allegedly assaulted the accused before handing him over to the authorities.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Police officials confirmed that the accused was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, which may have contributed to his behavior. He was later produced before a court, and a formal case has been registered against him under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. This legal framework is designed to safeguard minors from such offenses, and its invocation underscores the seriousness of the allegations.
The incident has sparked discussions about the need for enhanced vigilance at public transport hubs, especially during evening hours. Authorities are urging citizens to report any suspicious activities to ensure the safety of vulnerable individuals, particularly children. The case remains under investigation as police gather further details to support the charges.
