In a swift operation, the Gurgaon police have apprehended a 29-year-old man for allegedly sending a threatening message to the prominent Airia Mall on Sohna Road and demanding a ransom of Rs 5 lakh. The accused, identified as Basu, hails from Bhagalpur in Bihar and was working as a delivery executive while residing in Begumpur Khatola.
The Threat and Police Complaint
The case unfolded on January 6 when the management of Airia Mall approached the Badshahpur police station. They filed a formal complaint stating that an unknown number had sent a menacing message to the mall's official WhatsApp number. The message contained warnings of potential damage to the mall property.
When the mall authorities contacted the number, the sender reportedly portrayed himself as a powerful criminal figure and made a direct demand for Rs 5 lakh. This prompted immediate police intervention.
Swift Technical Investigation Leads to Arrest
Inspector Vijaypal, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Badshahpur police station, stated that a special team was quickly assembled to investigate the threat. The team employed a combination of technical analysis, mobile surveillance, and digital footprint tracking.
This multi-pronged technological approach proved highly effective, enabling the police to trace and locate the accused within just a few hours of receiving the complaint. The rapid response highlights the increasing capability of law enforcement in tackling cyber-enabled crimes.
Accused Sent to Judicial Custody
Following his arrest, the accused, Basu, was presented before the court. On January 7, he was remanded to judicial custody. The police investigation is ongoing to ascertain if he was acting alone or as part of a larger scheme.
