In a significant crackdown on the narcotics trade, Punjab Police have conducted multiple successful raids in the Banga area of Nawanshahr district, leading to the seizure of a substantial quantity of drugs and the arrest of several individuals. The operations, carried out under the directives of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Navneet Singh, underscore the force's continued vigilance against drug peddling in the region.
Major Haul of Heroin and Poppy Husk
Acting on precise intelligence, a police team from the Banga police station intercepted a vehicle. A thorough search of the car led to the discovery of 250 grams of heroin. The occupant of the vehicle, identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Badala village, was immediately taken into custody. This seizure represents a major blow to the local supply chain of hard drugs.
In a separate but equally critical operation, police officials arrested Kulwinder Singh, alias Kala, from Badala village. Upon searching his premises, the police recovered 52 kg of poppy husk. Kulwinder Singh has been formally arrested, and a case under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against him at the Banga police station.
Recovery of Intoxicant Tablets and Further Arrest
The police dragnet extended further with the arrest of Ravinder Kumar, a resident of Patiala. Kumar was found in possession of a large quantity of prescription-grade intoxicant tablets. The police confiscated 2,800 capsules of Lomotil and 225 tablets of Proxyvon from him. These pharmaceuticals are often misused as recreational drugs and are banned under the NDPS Act for non-medical use. A case has been registered against Ravinder Kumar, highlighting the police's focus on all forms of intoxicants.
