Ludhiana: Three Arrested for Murder After Holi Celebration Dispute Turns Violent

In a tragic incident following Holi celebrations in Balmiki Mohalla, Sahnewal, the local police have made significant arrests in a case involving the murder of two individuals. The victims, a 25-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman, were fatally struck by a vehicle during a violent altercation that erupted over loud music.

Details of the Arrests and Charges

The Sahnewal police have apprehended three accused persons, including a father-son duo, in connection with the double murder. Those arrested have been identified as Lakhwinder Singh alias Vishal, his father Harinder Singh alias Goldy, and their associate Jaspreet Singh alias Jass, all residents of Sahnewal. Additionally, the police have recovered a pickup jeep that was allegedly used in the commission of the crime.

An FIR has been registered under sections 103 (murder) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the arrested individuals, along with Jaswinder Singh of Chakk Saraye village in Doraha and seven other unidentified accomplices. The complaint was filed by Rohit, the brother of one of the deceased victims.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Tragedy

The incident unfolded on Wednesday evening in Balmiki Mohalla, shortly after Holi festivities. According to police reports, the altercation began when Vishal was playing loud music from his parked vehicle in the street. His neighbor, Bhupinder Sahota alias Ritik, objected to the noise and requested that the volume be lowered, sparking a heated argument.

In response, Vishal allegedly called his associates to the scene, escalating the dispute into a violent confrontation. The situation turned deadly when the accused started a pickup van and deliberately ran over Bhupinder. Balwinder Kaur, a neighbor who attempted to intervene and rescue Bhupinder, was also crushed under the vehicle. Following the attack, the pickup jeep crashed into a wall, and the accused fled the area.

Police Investigation and Ongoing Efforts

Inspector Varinder Pal Singh Uppal, the Station House Officer (SHO) at Sahnewal police station, stated that immediate action was taken after the case was registered. The police swiftly initiated tracking operations, leading to the arrest of the three primary accused and the recovery of the vehicle used in the crime. Authorities are currently conducting raids to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in this heinous act.

The deceased have been identified as Bhupinder Sahota alias Ritik, aged 25, and Balwinder Kaur, aged 62. The community has been left in shock by the brutal nature of the incident, which highlights the dangers of disputes escalating into violence.

This case underscores the importance of conflict resolution and law enforcement vigilance during festive periods. The Sahnewal police continue their investigation to ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice.
