The incident, which sent shockwaves through the area, resulted in one of the accused sustaining a bullet injury during the confrontation.

The police have identified the accused as Taranpreet Singh alias Taran of Dhillon Nagar, Lohara; Kuldeep Singh alias Deep of Fateh Singh Nagar, Daba; Surinder Singh alias Sunny of Gidri, Doraha; and Sukhpreet Singh alias Sukh of Tibba village.

Police Register Case Under Multiple Sections of BNS and Arms Act

Authorities have registered a formal case against the apprehended individuals at the Sadar police station. The charges include sections 109 (attempt to murder), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty), and 221 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 25 of the Arms Act. The First Information Report (FIR) was lodged based on the statement provided by ASI Sukhdev Singh of the ANTF Ludhiana unit.

DSP Rajesh Kumar Details the Tense Encounter

DSP (ANTF) Rajesh Kumar provided a detailed account of the operation, revealing that an ANTF team had established a checkpoint near the Lohara bridge on Sunday evening after receiving a crucial tip-off. During the operation, the team signaled a Renault Plus car to stop. However, the occupants attempted to execute a U-turn to evade the authorities.

Due to heavy traffic conditions, they were unable to reverse the vehicle, prompting ASI Bhupinder Singh and other team members to intervene. At that critical moment, one of the accused, seated in the front passenger seat, stepped out of the car and fired a gunshot directly at the police personnel. The officers swiftly took cover behind their vehicle to protect themselves.

ASI Bhupinder Singh's Retaliatory Action

In a decisive response, ASI Bhupinder Singh fired two rounds in retaliation. One of these rounds struck the accused in the stomach, causing him to collapse immediately. The ANTF team then moved swiftly to overpower and apprehend all four men, bringing the tense situation under control.

Recovery of Illegal Firearm and Ongoing Investigation

Following the apprehension, the police recovered an illegal .32-bore pistol from the accused. The ANTF is now actively verifying the criminal backgrounds of the individuals involved, and a thorough investigation is currently underway to uncover further details about the incident and any potential connections to broader criminal activities.

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies in Ludhiana to combat narcotics-related crimes and maintain public safety in the region.
