Lucknow Police Book Trio for Assault, Molestation Under Guise of Holi Festivities
In a disturbing incident that marred the festive spirit of Holi, the Babu Banarasi Das (BBD) police in Lucknow have registered a formal case against three individuals for allegedly assaulting a local resident and molesting his sister-in-law while pretending to engage in the traditional playing of colours.
Details of the Alleged Attack
The incident unfolded on Wednesday evening around 8:30 pm in Nurpur Behta village. According to a First Information Report (FIR) lodged on Sunday, the complainant, 33-year-old Harishchandra, stated that the accused—identified as Ranjit, Shivam, and Shubhash—forcibly attempted to apply colour to his sister-in-law, Suman.
When Harishchandra intervened to protect Suman, the situation quickly escalated. The trio reportedly responded with a volley of verbal abuse and explicit death threats directed at him. The confrontation turned violent when the attackers allegedly struck Harishchandra on the head and face with a heavy iron bangle, commonly known as a kada, causing serious injuries.
The victim emphasized that he was only saved from further harm after his brother, Chandrika Prasad, and Suman herself stepped in to intervene and halt the assault.
Police Action and Legal Charges
Following the submission of a written complaint on March 6, the BBD police have taken swift action by booking the accused under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include:
- Voluntarily causing hurt
- Intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace
- Criminal intimidation
Inspector Ram Singh confirmed that a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the three accused individuals. The police are actively pursuing all leads to ensure they are brought to justice promptly.
This case highlights a severe misuse of Holi celebrations, turning what is meant to be a joyous occasion into a traumatic experience for the victims. Authorities are urging the public to celebrate festivals responsibly and report any such incidents immediately to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
