Major Burglary in Lucknow: Thieves Disable CCTV, Steal Valuables Worth Over Rs 15 Lakh
In a meticulously planned heist that has left authorities scrambling for clues, thieves targeted a locked house in the Sarojininagar area of Lucknow, making off with cash, jewellery, and a motorcycle collectively valued at more than Rs 15 lakh. The Lucknow police confirmed the incident on Sunday, revealing that the burglars took the audacious step of disabling the home's CCTV surveillance system and removing the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) to cover their tracks.
Family Returns to Ransacked Home After Trip
The burglary unfolded on Friday night while the homeowner, a sales manager employed with a cement company, was away with his entire family. The family had traveled to Jahanabad in Fatehpur district on February 6 to bring their daughter-in-law home. Upon their return around 6 PM on February 7, they were met with a distressing scene: the main door lock was broken, and their house had been thoroughly ransacked.
Inside the home, household items were scattered chaotically, and lights had been left switched on, indicating the intruders had operated with little concern for detection. The family, residents of Hindu Kheda in Amausi, immediately began assessing their losses.
Stolen Items Include Bullet Motorcycle and High-Value Jewellery
A preliminary inventory revealed significant losses. A Bullet motorcycle, which had been parked inside the house, was missing. Furthermore, jewellery worth approximately Rs 13 lakh, stored securely in an almirah, and Rs 2.7 lakh in cash were stolen. The total estimated value of the stolen property exceeds Rs 15 lakh, marking this as a high-value theft case.
Deliberate Evidence Erasure: CCTV Cameras Smashed, DVR Taken
Police officials highlighted the calculated nature of the crime. The burglars deliberately smashed the CCTV cameras installed at the property and took away the DVR unit, an action clearly intended to erase any digital evidence of their identities or activities. This move has complicated the initial stages of the investigation.
A formal case has been registered at the Sarojininagar police station, and a comprehensive investigation is now underway. Police teams are actively scanning footage from nearby CCTV cameras in the vicinity, hoping to capture images of the suspects arriving or leaving the area.
Investigation Suggests Leisurely Theft Operation
Adding to the brazenness of the crime, preliminary findings from the police investigation suggest that the thieves spent a considerable amount of time inside the two-storey house. They appear to have carried out the theft at a leisurely pace, methodically searching through belongings and gathering valuables without apparent haste or fear of interruption.
