Loose Truck Tyre Kills Woman, Injures Three in Kanpur Highway Mishap
A tragic accident unfolded on Wednesday night in Kanpur's Patara town, where a speeding truck's loose tyre flew off, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to three other individuals. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Ghatampur police station area, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The accident took place near a grocery shop operated by Gyan Prakash Pandey, located in the parking area of Patara town along the busy Kanpur-Sagar highway. The shop, situated in the outer part of Pandey's residence, became the site of the catastrophe when a truck speeding from Kanpur's direction lost one of its tyres.
The tyre bounced violently, first striking a young man named Owais who was standing outside the shop. It then broke through the tin shed of the shop and crashed inside, where Pandey's wife Archana Devi and neighbor Asha Devi were seated. The impact injured all three individuals present in the shop at that moment.
Emergency Response and Medical Treatment
Passersby immediately alerted the police, who arrived promptly at the scene. The injured were rushed to Patara Community Health Center (CHC) for urgent medical attention. After receiving primary treatment, three of the victims—including Archana Devi and Owais—were discharged and sent home.
However, Asha Devi was in critical condition and required advanced care. She was referred to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital in Kanpur for specialized treatment. Tragically, despite medical efforts, Asha Devi succumbed to her injuries during treatment at the district hospital.
Police Investigation and Aftermath
Following the incident, police authorities informed the family members of the deceased and arranged for Asha Devi's body to be sent for postmortem examination. The investigation into the exact cause of the tyre detachment and the speeding truck's identification is ongoing.
This accident highlights significant safety concerns on highways, particularly regarding vehicle maintenance and speed regulations. The local community in Patara town remains shaken by the sudden loss, as authorities work to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
