The Lokayukta police in Karnataka's Haveri district arrested a second division assistant on charges of accepting a bribe. The accused, identified as Akkamma Bidarer, was caught red-handed at her office located in the deputy commissioner's office complex on the outskirts of the city.

According to officials, Bidarer had demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a complainant for processing a file related to a land dispute. The complainant, a resident of Haveri, approached the Lokayukta after Bidarer allegedly insisted on the payment to expedite the matter.
The Lokayukta team laid a trap and caught Bidarer while she was accepting the bribe amount. The cash was recovered from her possession in the presence of witnesses. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation is underway.
