Kurukshetra Police Nab Punjab Man with 2.11 Kg Opium in Interstate Smuggling Operation
Police in Kurukshetra district made a significant breakthrough on Friday. They arrested a man and seized a substantial quantity of opium from his possession. The operation highlights ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
Accused Identified as Canter Driver from Punjab
The arrested individual is Sukhdev Singh. He hails from Chhiniwal village in Barnala district of Punjab. Singh works as a driver of a canter vehicle. This detail became crucial during the police investigation into his activities.
Authorities produced Sukhdev Singh before the court on Friday. The court granted a six-day police remand for further investigation. Police aim to uncover forward and backward linkages in this smuggling case.
Tip-Off Leads to Interception on National Highway
According to a police spokesperson, the operation began on January 15. Under the supervision of Kurukshetra SP Nitish Aggarwal, a CIA team from Ladwa took action. PSI Jasbir Singh led this team.
Police received specific information about Sukhdev Singh's movements. The tip-off indicated that Singh frequently traveled to Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Upon his return to Punjab, he allegedly smuggled contraband in his canter.
The vehicle bore registration number PB 13BS 9352. Acting swiftly on this intelligence, police set up a checkpoint. They chose a location near Gumthala Garhu Chowki for surveillance.
Recovery of Opium and Legal Proceedings
After some time, the suspected canter appeared on National Highway 152. Police immediately intercepted the vehicle. They questioned the driver, who confirmed his identity as Sukhdev Singh.
Officers followed proper legal procedure during the search. A gazetted officer was present throughout the process. During the search, police discovered 2.11 kg of opium in Singh's possession.
Authorities registered a case under the NDPS Act at Pehowa Sadar police station. Following the recovery, police arrested Sukhdev Singh. The seizure represents a notable success in curbing drug smuggling activities.
