In a significant crackdown on digital offenses, the Kurukshetra Police have achieved a major milestone in their fight against online crime. The district's dedicated Cyber Cell has successfully arrested a total of 157 individuals accused of various cybercrimes in the year 2025 alone. Providing details of the operation, Superintendent of Police (SP) Surinder Singh Bhoria revealed the extent of the police's efforts. The arrests were made in connection with a wide range of fraudulent activities designed to deceive and financially harm citizens. A substantial number of these cases, 102 to be precise, were related to cheating and financial fraud conducted through digital means. The remaining cases involved other forms of cyber offenses.
The police action was not limited to making arrests. As part of their investigative process, authorities have also frozen bank accounts containing a collective sum of Rs 1.5 crore. This money is believed to be the proceeds of these illicit cyber activities. Furthermore, in a move to cripple the operational capabilities of the accused, the police seized 28 mobile phones, 42 SIM cards, and 5 ATM cards that were allegedly used to carry out the crimes.
Modus Operandi and Public Advisory
SP Bhoria explained the common tactics employed by these cybercriminals. The fraudsters often used deceptive methods to gain the trust of their victims. A prevalent scheme involved tricking people into sharing their confidential banking details, such as One-Time Passwords (OTPs) and debit/credit card information. Once in possession of these details, the accused would swiftly siphon money from the victims' accounts.
In light of these incidents, the Kurukshetra Police have issued a strong advisory to the public. Citizens are urged to exercise extreme caution with their personal and financial information online. The police emphasized that individuals should never share OTPs, card details, or CVV numbers with anyone over the phone or via unverified digital platforms. Vigilance is the first line of defense against such scams.
