Kurukshetra Police Arrest Man for Rs 35 Lakh US Study Scam

In a significant crackdown on financial fraud, the Kurukshetra police have arrested a man for allegedly duping a local resident of several lakhs of rupees on the pretext of sending his son to the United States. The arrest was made by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) following directives from Superintendent of Police Nitish Aggarwal.

Details of the Arrest and Accused

The accused, identified as Jagjit Singh, also known as Samar, is a resident of Pehowa. He was produced in court and has been remanded to judicial custody. This action underscores the police's commitment to tackling economic crimes in the region.

Complaint and Allegations

According to police reports, the complaint was filed on August 26, 2025, by Jaswant Singh, a resident of Sandhu Farm in Morthali. Jaswant claimed that in 2022, he was introduced to Jagjit Singh and Harpreet Kaur, who asserted they could arrange overseas travel for his son. An agreement was finalized for Rs 35 lakh, with half the amount to be paid upfront.

The complainant initially transferred Rs 5 lakh and later gave another Rs 5 lakh after being informed that the visa had been arranged. On June 18, 2022, the accused sent the complainant's son to Dubai, following which the remaining Rs 25 lakh was paid. However, the youth was never sent onward to Europe or the United States and eventually returned to India.

Threats and Investigation

When Jaswant demanded his money and documents back, the accused allegedly refused and issued threats. A case has been registered at the City Pehowa Police Station, and an investigation is currently underway to uncover further details and potential accomplices.

This incident highlights the risks associated with unauthorized agents promising overseas education and travel, urging residents to verify credentials before making substantial payments.
