Kota Man Arrested for Allegedly Threatening Rahul Gandhi and Congress MPs in Online Video
A man was arrested on Thursday in Rajasthan's Kota district for allegedly posting a video online in which he threatened to shoot Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and 25 other Congress Members of Parliament. The suspect, identified as Raja Singh Amera, made the threats in response to what he described as the MPs' alleged verbal abuse of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla during the recent budget session.
Video Details and Specific Threats
In the 0.55-second video clip that went viral, Amera explicitly stated that he and his associates would vandalize the homes of the targeted MPs and shoot them "one by one." He further warned that the administration would bear responsibility if such violent acts were carried out. The video has sparked significant concern and prompted immediate police action.
Political Affiliations and Denials
Raja Singh Amera claims to be a spokesperson for the Karni Sena, a Rajput community organization. However, both the Karni Sena and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have swiftly distanced themselves from him. Official statements from both organizations clarified that Amera holds no formal position or ties with them, attempting to dissociate from the inflammatory content.
It is noteworthy that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is the BJP MP representing the Kota constituency, adding a political dimension to the incident. The threats appear to be motivated by perceived disrespect toward the Speaker during parliamentary proceedings.
Police Response and Legal Action
Kota City Superintendent of Police Tejeshwani Goutam confirmed the arrest and revealed that Amera has a history of legal troubles, with four previous cases registered against him. In response to the latest video, police have filed a fresh case under sections 351, 352, and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The charges pertain to:
- Criminal intimidation
- Breach of public peace
- Mischief
Authorities are investigating the matter thoroughly to determine if others were involved and to ensure the safety of the threatened individuals. The arrest underscores the seriousness with which law enforcement is treating online threats against public figures.
