Kolkata STF Cracks Down on Fake Currency Network
The Special Task Force of Kolkata Police has made a significant breakthrough. Officers arrested three individuals for operating a counterfeit Indian currency manufacturing unit. This action followed two coordinated operations in Patuli and Sonarpur on Wednesday and Thursday.
First Operation Leads to Arrests
On Wednesday afternoon, police detained three suspects during an operation in the Patuli Police Station area. The arrested men are Alok Nag, also known as Bapi, aged 58, and Ayan Nag, alias Biki, aged 33. Both reside in Sonarpur under the Narendrapur Police Station jurisdiction. The third suspect is Shyam Babu Paswan, 36, from Titagarh under Khardah Police Station.
Authorities recovered fake currency notes with a face value of Rs 9,200 from their possession. Police took the men into custody from the spot around 5:50 PM. A case was registered at the STF Police Station under sections 178, 179, 180, 181, and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Second Raid Uncovers Manufacturing Unit
Based on statements provided by Alok and Ayan, the STF team conducted another search early Thursday morning. This operation led to the discovery of an alleged fake note manufacturing unit. Police found the setup on the ground floor of a rented house in Ramkrishna Pally, Rajpur, Sonarpur.
The house is linked to Alok Nag and owned by Shyamal Kumar Roy. It falls under the Narendrapur Police Station area. During this raid, officers seized counterfeit notes worth Rs 15,200 from the premises.
Accused Remanded to Police Custody
The three accused individuals have been produced in court. A magistrate has sent them to police custody. They will remain in custody until January 28 as the investigation continues.
