Kolkata Man Stabbed While Trying to Stop Road Rage Fight Near Hospital
A 42-year-old man from South 24 Parganas district was seriously injured with knife wounds after attempting to intervene in a violent road rage altercation that erupted near Chittaranjan Hospital in Kolkata. The incident occurred around 3:40 PM on January 25, highlighting the dangers of escalating traffic disputes in the city.
Details of the Violent Altercation
The confrontation began when a pickup van suddenly came to a halt near a sweet shop, leading to a collision with two scooter riders. This minor accident quickly spiraled into a physical scuffle between the van driver and the riders. Riaz Dar, a resident of Haldarpara in Khutiyari Sharisha under Canning Police Station, witnessed the fight and tried to act as a peacemaker.
According to Dar's account, his intervention was met with hostility. A local youth, who claimed to be friends with the scooter riders, allegedly attacked Dar with a knife, causing significant injuries. The van driver, seeing the situation escalate, fled the scene immediately, leaving Dar bleeding on the roadside.
Police Investigation and Medical Treatment
Dar was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, where he received medical care for his stab wounds. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening, and he was discharged after treatment. The Beniapukur police station has taken charge of the case and is actively probing the incident to identify and apprehend the attackers.
This case underscores the growing concern over road rage incidents in Kolkata, where minor traffic disputes can turn violent. Authorities are urging citizens to exercise caution and report such altercations to the police rather than intervening personally, to prevent similar tragedies.
