Kolkata Kidnapping Case: Police Investigation Uncovers Serious Discrepancies in Allegations
In a startling development in Kolkata, serious discrepancies have emerged between the claims made by a 21-year-old woman from Kasba regarding her alleged kidnapping on February 13 and the evidence uncovered by police investigators. The case has taken a complex turn as technical data and witness statements contradict key aspects of the complainant's version of events.
FIR Registered and Arrests Made Amid Conflicting Evidence
Kasba police registered an FIR against unknown persons for vandalizing properties belonging to two main accused, Akash Singh and Ariyan Singh. So far, three young men, all aged 21 including Akash Singh, have been arrested in connection with the case. However, police sources indicate that two other accused individuals remain at large, and none of those arrested have been given a clean chit yet.
"We need to ascertain why they are on the run. We need further probe to establish the exact sequence of events," said an officer involved in the investigation.
Technical Evidence Contradicts Kidnapping Timeline
According to the girl's complaint, she was kidnapped around 11 pm while returning from her aunt's place in a black car. She claimed to have been released around 3:30 am. However, police investigation has revealed a different timeline.
"We found no car movement in Kasba area for 4 hours till 3:30 am that matches her version of events," stated investigating officers.
Technical evidence indicates the girl was actually at a hotel near Acropolis Mall until approximately 2:30 am, raising questions about her whereabouts during the alleged kidnapping period.
Inconsistent Location Details and Witness Statements
The investigation has uncovered further inconsistencies regarding the location of the alleged kidnapping. Initially, the complainant stated she was kidnapped from near a thick bush near Jahajbari, but later changed her statement to claim the incident occurred on the road.
"This road remains busy, even at 11 pm. This led to doubts," explained an officer, highlighting the improbability of a kidnapping occurring unnoticed at such a location.
Police have also determined that the girl did not visit her aunt at the time she claimed, adding another layer of discrepancy to her account.
Key Witnesses Under Scrutiny
Investigators are closely questioning several individuals connected to the case. The male friend who reportedly rescued the girl is undergoing detailed interrogation, as is a female friend who allegedly saw the girl walking toward a car after being summoned by the accused.
"As a neighbour, she trusted the main accused," noted an officer regarding the relationship between the complainant and Akash Singh.
Police are particularly focused on reconstructing the missing hour between 2:30 am and 3:30 am in the complainant's statement, which remains unaccounted for in the current evidence.
Ongoing Investigation and Future Steps
The investigation continues as police work to piece together the exact sequence of events. With three arrests already made and two suspects still at large, authorities are pursuing multiple lines of inquiry to determine what actually transpired on the night of February 13.
Police officials emphasize that while discrepancies have been identified, the investigation remains active and comprehensive. All aspects of the case, including the vandalism of properties belonging to the accused, are being examined as part of the broader inquiry into this complex situation.
