Kochi Rave Party Drug Bust: Police Identify New Key Accomplices

The Kochi city police, investigating a drug seizure at a rave party held at a star hotel in Kadavanthra last month, have identified more key persons involved in the racket. According to police, a woman was a key accomplice of Kevin B Mathew, the man who supplies the drug, and a probe is on to track her down.

Arrest of Another Peddler

Police managed to arrest another person who used to peddle drugs sold by Kevin in bulk. P M Shameer of Palluruthy was arrested with 11.68 grams of MDMA on Thursday. Police are also investigating if more people are part of the racket.

International Links Under Scrutiny

Police said Mathew visited foreign countries, including Thailand, and it is suspected that these trips were to procure drugs. His financial transactions and phone call records are under investigation. Police found that Shameer purchased MDMA twice from Mathew. The probe team has also received information that there was another intermediary between Shameer and Mathew.

Mathew was apprehended by city police with 183.55 grams of MDMA and 93.51 grams of ecstasy pills from Vazhakkala, Thrikkakara, on April 17.

Arson Attempt in Thammanam

In a separate incident, a man was booked by Palarivattom police on Friday for allegedly pouring an inflammable substance on a house and vehicles in Thammanam. Although the accused tried to start a fire, it did not succeed. According to police, those in the house woke up, hearing the accused and raised an alarm. They were able to douse the fire before it spread even as the accused managed to flee. The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday.

Police took the accused, identified as Shyamakumar of Thiruvananthapuram, into custody. He was known to one of the youths in the house, and personal reasons are suspected to be behind the attack, said police.
