Tragic Night Accident in Kerala Claims Life of Elderly Pedestrian

A devastating road accident in Kerala has resulted in the death of a 66-year-old pedestrian, who was struck by a speeding motorcycle while walking with his grandson. The incident occurred on Wednesday night in Kaliyikkavila, highlighting grave concerns over road safety and reckless driving in the region.

Details of the Fatal Collision

The victim, identified as Shahul Hameed from Parasalla, was walking along the road with his grandson around 10:30 PM when a high-speed bike hit him. The impact was severe, causing Hameed to fall and sustain critical injuries. Eyewitnesses and preliminary police reports indicate the motorcycle was traveling at an excessive speed, which directly contributed to the fatality.

Local residents immediately rushed Hameed to a nearby hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. However, doctors at the facility declared him dead upon arrival, confirming the tragic outcome of the collision.

Police Investigation and Arrest of the Accused Rider

Parassala police swiftly launched an investigation into the accident. Officers examined CCTV footage from the area, which played a crucial role in identifying the motorcycle and its rider. The footage revealed that the youth operating the bike fled the scene immediately after the accident without stopping to assist the victim or report the incident.

Based on this evidence, police arrested the alleged rider. Legal proceedings are now underway, with authorities emphasizing the seriousness of hit-and-run cases and the importance of accountability in such tragedies.

Aftermath and Family Mourning

Following the accident, Hameed's body was transported to a medical college hospital for a postmortem examination. After the necessary procedures were completed, the remains were handed over to his grieving relatives.

Shahul Hameed is survived by his wife, Bivi Jahan, and their children: Seyyadali, Shermita, and Shabana. The family is now coping with the sudden loss, as community members express condolences and call for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent similar incidents in the future.

This case underscores ongoing issues with road safety in Kerala, where speeding and negligent driving continue to pose significant risks to pedestrians. Police have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on traffic violations, urging drivers to exercise caution and responsibility on the roads.
