Keonjhar Fast Track Court Delivers 20-Year Sentence in Minor Gang-Rape Case

According to Special Public Prosecutor Patitapaban Nath, the case came to light on February 13, 2021, when Childline officials in Banspal block received a tip-off about a 16-year-old girl, who was seven months pregnant, residing in a goat herder's house. The Childline team promptly rescued the minor and placed her under the care of the Sakhi One Stop Centre at the district headquarters hospital in Keonjhar.
During counselling sessions at the centre, Director Aishwarya Sanghamitra Das discovered the girl's pregnancy and learned of the gang-rape. Das filed a formal written complaint with the police on July 13, 2021, initiating a thorough investigation. Police gathered substantial evidence against four suspects, building a strong case based on forensic findings and witness accounts.

The trial relied heavily on the statements of 20 witnesses and a detailed police investigation report.
