Kashmir Implements Multilayer Security for Republic Day Celebrations
Ahead of Republic Day, authorities in Kashmir have established a robust, multi-tier security grid across the Valley to ensure peaceful celebrations. This comprehensive security arrangement includes heavy deployment of police and paramilitary forces, aerial surveillance through drones, and intensified vehicle checks and frisking operations.
Open Invitation to Bakshi Stadium
Police officials have announced that Bakshi Stadium, the venue for the main Republic Day function in Srinagar, will be open to all residents. Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, V K Birdi emphasized that everyone is welcome to participate in the event, stating, "It is an open kind of invitation, and everyone is free to come." He extended a special welcome to families and school-going children, encouraging them to join the celebrations.
Security Measures and Rehearsals
The security preparations involve multiple layers, with Jammu and Kashmir Police, its security wing, and central armed paramilitary forces collaborating to secure the venue and other key installations in Srinagar. IGP Birdi explained that while there are no specific inputs about militant threats to disrupt the function, generic intelligence is received annually during this period. "We don't want to leave anything to chance," he noted, highlighting the precautionary approach.
Security personnel conducted a full-dress rehearsal not only for the main event but also for the security arrangements themselves. This rehearsal aimed to ensure seamless coordination among all units involved.
Area Domination and Search Operations
In addition to venue security, police, paramilitary forces, and the Army have intensified sudden cordon-and-search operations across the Valley, particularly during evening and night hours. These operations are part of area domination techniques designed to keep anti-national elements at bay. An official stated, "Each unit from different security agencies is involved," underscoring the collaborative effort.
Similar strict security arrangements have been implemented in other districts of Kashmir, ensuring a uniform and vigilant approach throughout the region.
The combination of open public invitations and stringent security measures reflects a balanced strategy to foster community participation while maintaining safety during the Republic Day festivities in Kashmir.
