Bengaluru: Director General of Police and Inspector General of Police M A Saleem on Wednesday stated that the data presented by senior officers during the chief minister’s first review meeting on rowdy activity was incorrect. This clarification came in response to a TOI report suggesting that Kalaburagi topped the state in the number of rowdy sheeters.
Revised Data on Rowdy Sheeters
According to revised figures from the home department, Karnataka has 39,698 rowdy sheeters, of whom 42% are classified as active. Saleem provided the corrected numbers, highlighting that Bengaluru city accounts for the highest number of active rowdies at 6,210. Following Bengaluru are Kalaburagi with 1,475 active rowdies, Ramanagara (952), Hassan (883), and Tumakuru (856).
Lowest Active Rowdy Numbers
The districts with the lowest numbers of active rowdies include Dharwad (109), Uttara Kannada (130), Bengaluru district (139), Chamarajanagar (150), Kalaburagi city (151), and Udupi (153).
Shift in Crime Patterns
Saleem noted that conventional physical crimes are declining, while cybercrimes are becoming increasingly common across the state. This trend reflects the changing nature of criminal activity in Karnataka.
