Karnataka Congress Accused of Aiding Illegal Migrants in Ramanagara

Allegations of Fake Identity Cards for Illegal Migrants

Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy has accused the Karnataka Congress government of attempting to create identity cards for illegal Bangladeshi migrants in Ramanagara. In a post on X, he demanded that the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka conduct a thorough investigation and take strict action against those responsible.

BJP Leader Raises Concerns Over SIR Process Violations

BJP leader Dr. Ravi C. T. also questioned the integrity of the Special Summary Revision (SIR) exercise in Ramanagara, alleging open violation of Election Commission rules. He pointed out that under the SIR process, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are required to visit every household, distribute forms, and collect information. However, in Tippu Nagar, Ward No. 23, the process was allegedly compromised to include illegal immigrants.

Political Reactions and Demands for Action

Kumaraswamy, who serves as the Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, tagged the official handles of the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka (@CEO_Karnataka) and the Election Commission of India (@ECISVEEP) in his post, urging them to investigate. The Janata Dal (Secular) party also amplified the allegation on its official handle.

Dr. Ravi C. T. further alleged that the SIR exercise is being turned into a "mockery" by the state government, potentially allowing illegal migrants to be enrolled as voters. He called for immediate intervention by the Election Commission to ensure the integrity of the electoral rolls.

Background of the Controversy

Ramanagara, a district in Karnataka, has been a focal point of political disputes over illegal immigration. The allegations come ahead of upcoming elections, raising concerns about voter list manipulation. Both Kumaraswamy and Ravi have demanded a probe to identify and prosecute those involved in the alleged fraud.

The Election Commission has not yet issued a formal response to the allegations. However, such claims often trigger scrutiny and possible revision of electoral rolls in the affected areas.
